Megalink 4K187 Electronic Target [MEGA4K187]

*PLEASE GET IN TOUCH TO ENQUIRE ABOUT PRICING OR REQUEST A QUOTE*

The 4K187 target is a highly versatile unit, primarily designed for 10m Air Pistol and Air Rifle, but equally suitable for use with smallbore rifles at 15, 20 or 25 yards/metres, and may even be used for 50m rifle.  Although compact, it embodies all the features and strengths of the ML2000 system.  In addition, maintenance is super easy.

The entire unit is protected by steel plating that can withstand direct .22 calibre hits, and this can be supplied with or without internal LED lighting as desired.  For indoor smallbore usage a wooden cover plate is available that protects against ricochet.  A plastic cover is available for outdoor use to protect the target unit from rain and snow, but please note that this target is not appropriate for permanent outdoor installations where the target is exposed to the elements for long periods of time.

The 4K187 can be used in a variety of different configurations:

  • As a stand-alone personal training target, using a PC as a display
  • As a stand-alone personal training target, using a dedicated Megalink monitor and a 12V battery
  • As part of a larger range installation with multiple targets connected together and managed from a central PC

A range of accessories are available to assist with setting up your required range configuration:

  • A pellet catcher for 10m Air events
  • A simple aluminium stand, with options for a 75cm or 140cm target height
  • A target lift to allow the height of the target to be altered from the firing point when shooting in different positions

The 4K187, 4K300 and 4K560 targets are based on measuring the sound waves from the bullet when it passes through a sound chamber.  The target controller determines differences in time when the front of the sound wave reaches different microphones.  Since the position of the microphones is known, and the speed of sound can be calculated by measuring the temperature, the location of the hit can be calculated with trigonometric equations.

The sound chamber has to be designed correctly to achieve reliable and precise detection of each shot.  Requirements include:

    1. Minimise the temperature fluctuations in the sound chamber
    2. Reduce noise from bullet catcher, neighbouring target or mechanical influence on target
    3. Precise location of microphones
    4. Reduce negative impact of weather (wind, rain, sun etc.)
    5. Precise location of aiming target
    6. Easy maintenance
    7. Protection of sensors and cables for shots outside the detection area.

These targets are all configured with four microphones in the corners of the sound chamber in order to exploit the better mathematical characteristics when compared to three microphones located in the bottom of the chamber.  Practical testing has shown that maintenance of the sound chamber is important for all target types.  A badly maintained target with four microphones has less precision than a well maintained target with three microphones.

A roll of thin rubber or paper sheet (termed the target band) is used to ensure that the detection chamber of the target remains as sealed as possible.  After the strip of the paper or rubber band that covers the aiming area has been shot through repeatedly the integrity of the sound chamber can be compromised and the band is rolled out a short section (termed a band advance) to re-seal the detection chamber and restore optimal shot detection quality.

The motor unit in the target is built to accommodate bands of either rubber or paper.  With the wide range of aiming faces available this target can be used for a great many shooting disciplines and activities.  Band advance can be controlled automatically by the target’s own software or by any PC that is connected to the ML2000 network.  With reduced band advance during training the consumption of the paper or rubber bands is reduced.  In competition mode the band is advanced to ensure the highest accuracy of the target’s detection chamber.

Patented technology for measuring the shape of the sound waves and thereby determining the state of a target's detection chamber is very useful for professional shooters during training, and range officers during competitions.  The shooter (information displayed on the monitor) or the range officer (information displayed on the range computer) can very easily see whether there are any potential problems in the targets sound chamber - before they may interfere with precise detection of the shot.  This is a quality system highly appreciated among our customers.
